Geotechnical Engineer - Coastal Development

About the Role

Our client seeks a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their established team in Cape Town. This role focuses on assessing ground conditions and providing expert recommendations for a range of construction and development projects along the Western Cape coastline. You will play a critical role in ensuring the stability and safety of foundations, slopes, and subterranean structures by conducting detailed site investigations and analyses.

• Conduct comprehensive site investigations, including soil sampling, borehole drilling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to determine engineering properties and potential hazards.
• Design foundations, retaining walls, and slope stabilization measures appropriate for coastal conditions.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical investigation reports, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Provide technical support to construction teams during the implementation phase, overseeing earthworks and foundation construction.
• Ensure all designs and recommendations comply with relevant South African engineering standards and building regulations applicable to Cape Town.

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in geotechnical investigations and design.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and modeling (e.g., Plaxis, Geo Studio).
• Experience with coastal geotechnical challenges, including erosion and soil liquefaction potential.
• Strong report writing and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients and site personnel in Cape Town.
