About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Mine Planning Engineer to join their operational team in Cape Town , focusing on open-pit mining projects. This role is essential for developing short-term and long-term mine plans that optimize resource extraction while ensuring safety and environmental compliance. You will work closely with production, geology, and survey teams to implement efficient mining strategies. This position is ideal for an engineer who possesses strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of open-pit mining operations, contributing to the successful and sustainable development of valuable mineral resources in the Western Cape region.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute short-term and medium-term mine plans, including stope design , ore control , and waste rock management.
- Create detailed production schedules and monitor progress against planned targets.
- Optimize mine designs for efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness using specialized mining software.
- Liaise with geology and survey teams to ensure accurate geological models and topographical data are incorporated into planning.
- Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining areas and projects.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations within the mining operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in open-pit mine planning and operations.
- Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, blast design, and mine surveying.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic environment.
