Mine Planning Engineer - Underground Operations

Our client is looking for a skilled and innovative Mine Planning Engineer to join their established team focused on underground mining operations in Cape Town . This role is critical in developing short and long-term mine plans that optimize resource extraction, ensure operational efficiency, and maintain the highest safety standards. You will be instrumental in translating geological models into practical, executable mining strategies, working closely with operations and technical teams to maximize asset value and achieve production targets in a challenging underground environment.

• Develop and maintain detailed short-term and long-term mine plans, considering ore recovery, stope sequencing, and equipment utilization.
• Create and optimize mine layouts, including access routes, ventilation systems, and production areas for underground operations .
• Conduct geotechnical assessments and integrate findings into mine design and planning processes.
• Collaborate with production teams to monitor progress against plans, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions.
• Utilize mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan) to generate production schedules and economic evaluations.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations within the mine site.

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine planning, specifically within underground mining environments.
• Proficiency with industry-standard mine planning and modeling software.
• Strong understanding of mining methods, ventilation, and ground support principles for underground operations.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex economic analyses.
• Membership in a relevant professional engineering body is advantageous.
