Principal RF Engineer

Our client, a leader in advanced telecommunications technology, is seeking a highly experienced Principal RF Engineer to join their cutting-edge research and development team in Cape Town, Western Cape, ZA. This senior role is responsible for driving innovation in radio frequency systems design, optimization, and deployment for next-generation mobile networks. • Lead the design, development, and testing of RF systems for mobile communication networks, including base stations and user equipment.
• Conduct detailed RF performance analysis, including signal propagation modeling, interference analysis, and link budget calculations.
• Optimize RF network parameters to enhance coverage, capacity, and quality of service.
• Develop and implement advanced antenna technologies and solutions.
• Collaborate with hardware and software development teams to ensure seamless integration of RF components.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in RF technology, standards (e.g., 5G , LTE-Advanced), and competitive landscape.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex RF-related issues in deployed networks.
• Mentor junior RF engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Contribute to the development of technical roadmaps and strategic planning for RF systems.
• Author technical specifications, design documents, and present findings to stakeholders.

• Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field with a specialization in RF engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in RF engineering, with a strong focus on mobile communication systems.
• Expertise in RF circuit design, simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS HFSS, CST), and measurement equipment.
• Deep understanding of wireless propagation characteristics, interference mitigation techniques, and network optimization strategies.
• Proven experience with 4G/LTE and 5G  and standards.
• Familiarity with RF spectrum management and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong leadership qualities and the ability to lead technical projects and teams.
• Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
• Experience in antenna design and testing is highly desirable.
