Lead Electrical Systems Architect - Industrial Automation

Our client, a prominent industrial technology solutions provider, is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Systems Architect to spearhead the design and development of advanced automation systems. This pivotal role is based in the vibrant city of Cape Town, Western Cape , and requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles and their application in complex industrial environments.

You will be responsible for defining the architectural blueprint for our clients' automation strategies, ensuring robust, scalable, and efficient electrical systems. This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including software developers, mechanical engineers, and project managers, to deliver state-of-the‑art solutions that drive industrial performance and innovation in Cape Town .

• Define and document the overall electrical architecture for industrial automation projects, ensuring alignment with client requirements and industry best practices.
• Lead the conceptualization and detailed design of electrical control panels, power distribution systems, and network infrastructure.
• Oversee the selection and integration of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and other automation components.
• Develop and implement robust safety strategies and ensure compliance with relevant safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 13849).
• Collaborate with clients to understand their operational needs and translate them into effective electrical system designs in Western Cape .
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of electrical engineers and technicians.
• Conduct thorough design reviews, risk assessments, and validation testing.
• Troubleshoot complex electrical and automation issues during design, implementation, and commissioning phases.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in industrial automation and electrical engineering.

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in electrical design, with a significant focus on industrial automation.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing complex electrical systems for manufacturing or process industries.
• In‑depth knowledge of PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text) and SCADA systems.
• Familiarity with international standards for electrical installations and machine safety.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Exceptional problem‑solving skills and attention to detail, critical for projects in Cape Town .
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for client interactions.
• Experience with CAD software for electrical design.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration is highly preferred.
