Traffic Engineer

BVi Consulting Engineers is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Traffic Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking traffic engineering investigations, preparing Traffic Impact Studies and Access Studies, evaluating the traffic implications of proposed developments, and developing practical, technically sound solutions to traffic and access challenges.

The role will involve working on a variety of projects, including residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure developments, as well as road and interchange projects. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients and relevant road authorities to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

• Conduct Traffic Impact Studies (TIS) to assess the potential impact of proposed developments on existing road networks.
• Undertake traffic and access studies for residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use developments.
• Investigate existing access arrangements, site circulation and proposed access layouts, and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Assess the traffic implications of proposed developments and identify potential capacity, safety and operational concerns.
• Prepare technical reports, including Traffic Impact Studies, Access Studies, feasibility assessments and fatal flaw reports.
• Develop and evaluate access layouts and road network solutions in accordance with applicable design standards and requirements.
• Liaise with clients, developers, municipal officials and relevant road authorities regarding traffic engineering requirements and proposed access arrangements.
• Engage with road authorities to obtain input and facilitate the approval of proposed access layouts and traffic engineering solutions.
• Provide traffic engineering input into road planning, geometric design and broader transportation engineering projects.
• Collaborate with civil, geometric, pavement and other engineering specialists to develop coordinated design solutions.
• Contribute to preliminary and detailed designs, technical documentation and project deliverables where required.
• Assist with project coordination, technical reviews, quality assurance and the delivery of projects within agreed time frames and budgets.

• BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering or an equivalent recognised engineering qualification.
• Postgraduate qualification in Transportation Engineering would be advantageous.
• Professional registration (PrEng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
• Relevant experience in traffic engineering, transportation engineering or civil engineering consultancy.
• Demonstrable experience in preparing Traffic Impact Studies and/or Traffic and Access Studies.
• Knowledge of road access requirements, traffic engineering principles and relevant road design standards.
• Experience engaging with clients, developers and road authorities.
• Strong technical report-writing, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.
