Lead Geotechnical Engineer

Our client, a highly reputable geotechnical and materials engineering firm, is actively searching for a seasoned Lead Geotechnical Engineer to spearhead their operations in Cape Town, Western Cape . This senior role is critical for managing complex geotechnical investigations and foundation designs for a diverse range of projects, including high-rise buildings, bridges, and coastal infrastructure along the Western Cape coastline. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of geologists and geotechnical engineers, ensuring the highest quality of service and technical excellence.

• Oversee and manage all geotechnical investigation projects, from site reconnaissance to detailed analysis and reporting.
• Perform complex foundation design, slope stability analysis, and ground improvement recommendations.
• Lead the interpretation of geotechnical data and the preparation of comprehensive geotechnical reports.
• Manage client relationships and provide expert technical advice on geotechnical matters.
• Supervise and mentor junior geotechnical engineers and field technicians.
• Ensure adherence to relevant building codes, standards, and best practices in geotechnical engineering.
• Develop and implement quality control procedures for site investigations and laboratory testing.
• Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentations.

• MSc or MEng in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (PrEng) is mandatory.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong emphasis on foundation design and investigation.
• Extensive experience with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, Geo Studio).
• Proven track record in managing large, complex projects in the Cape Town and Western Cape region.
• Strong understanding of local geological conditions and seismic risks.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• Ability to travel to project sites as required.
