General Reinsurance, Cape Town Branch (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an opportunity for Financial Accountant in our Life Australia, UK, SA, Canada division.
Key ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking a qualified Chartered Accountant to join our finance team as a Financial Accountant within the reinsurance sector. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting expertise, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for financial accuracy and problem‑solving.
This is a challenging and rewarding position that offers exposure to a dynamic business environment and reports directly to the Financial Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Processing and reporting of management expenses
- Monthly reporting of technical results
- Managing cash flow and liquidity requirements
- Overseeing the accounts’ payable function
- Reconciling general ledger accounts
- Preparing and monitoring annual expense budgets
- Completing monthly VAT returns
- Processing salary-related and other month‑end journals
- Maintaining and updating the fixed asset register
- Processing reinsurance technical accounts
- Completing allocated sections of quarterly US GAAP and other reporting packs
- Preparing regulatory returns
- Managing intercompany invoicing
- Performing various ad‑hoc tasks as required
- CA (SA)
- No reinsurance experience needed, although this would be an advantage
- SAP experience would be an advantage
- Strong excel skills is essential
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent numerical and analytical abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the business
- Ability to work independently and use sound judgement
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively while remaining adaptable to changing work demands
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
