Job Purpose
To provide high-quality quantitative and qualitative input into the multi-manager team. A primary focus on unit trust and hedge fund (specifically RIHF’s) analysis and research, a strong understanding of investment markets as well as the ability to produce top quality performance and attribution reporting. The role also includes supporting event co-ordination and contributing to a broad range of investment research topics and projects, including new product ideas.
The goal is to deliver actionable insights and robust analysis that drive informed investment decisions and supports the growth of assets under management while achieving the required investment return objectives for clients. The person is also expected to play a pivotal role in the development and roll out of possible hedge fund products (single manager and multi-managed).
Job Responsibilities
• Conduct investment research across both traditional unit trust funds as well as hedge funds (RIHF’s) using quantitative and qualitative methods, including performance attribution, risk analytics, and financial modelling.
• Develop and maintain sophisticated excel models (including VBA, Power Query, and similar) to support investment analysis and reporting.
• Apply programming skills (Python, R, or similar) to automate processes, analyse data, and enhance investment decision-making.
• Responsibility for in-depth monthly and quarterly performance reporting on existing and new solution funds, underlying holdings and models. This will include key insights and attribution of performance and risk exposures.
• Make appropriate investment recommendations in asset allocation and fund management discussions based on rigorous research and analysis.
• Take a decisive role in the development of single manager and multi-managed hedge fund products in the future.
• Monitor investment funds regularly, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and internal risk controls.
• Assist in the day-to-day management of the funds by implementing existing processes and procedures.
• Attend regular investment management meetings for fund review and oversight.
• Ensure timely production and presentation of reporting material, focusing on technical accuracy and actionable insights.
• Manage relationships with potential and existing asset managers, supporting due diligence and manager research (developmental area).
• Support the achievement of business strategy, objectives, and values by aligning delivered systems, processes, services, and solutions.
• Identify and recommend improvements to business processes and systems, adding value to the team and stakeholders.
• Participate in the planning and organising of client events, webinars, supporting documentation and podcasts. Ownership of some key tasks will be agreed upon.
• Adhere to the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Code of Conduct and uphold the highest ethical standards in all investment activities.
• Participate in personal and team development, sharing knowledge and industry trends during formal and informal interactions.
• Contribute to a culture conducive to transformation goals and corporate responsibility initiatives (eg: staff surveys etc.).
• Identify training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from management as well as self-research.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
- Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
Preferred Qualification
• National 1st Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Data Management, Investments or Risk Management.
• Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and/or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) – or currently undertaking.
• Postgraduate degree in Investment Management, Economics, Mathematics, Financial Modelling and Risk Management, Data analysis and programming or Quantitative Analysis and Statistics.
• Completion of Python, AI or programming type certification.
