Based in Cape Town, this senior Standard Bank role leads regional real‑estate lending for complex clients and strategically important relationships. The Executive Vice President works with Client Coverage, the Regional Head and Sub‑Segment Leads to select opportunities, shape debt solutions and oversee transactions through completion. Responsibility extends beyond individual deals to regional revenue, profit, asset growth, portfolio risk and balance‑sheet allocation.

The role reviews models and transaction structures, intervenes on watchlist and non‑performing exposures, and directs team capability. It combines senior client advice and execution leadership with accountability for lending performance and governance across the region.

Key responsibilities
  • Set regional real‑estate finance growth priorities and use market and client data to build the lending pipeline.
  • Own profit, revenue, asset‑growth and portfolio targets, monitoring outcomes and actions needed to improve returns.
  • Select and secure mandates by assessing commercial feasibility, likelihood of closing and alignment with risk appetite.
  • Advise complex clients, refine financing proposals and lead post‑pitch activity through closing.
  • Oversee regional execution and approve models, structures, term sheets and lending recommendations.
  • Monitor exposures, lead watchlist and non‑performing‑loan interventions, and coordinate capital allocation with Risk and Distribution.
  • Oversee diligence, integrity reviews, approvals and compliance with CIB controls.
  • Lead teams through portfolio allocation, objectives, coaching and performance management; contribute to strategy and risk‑appetite planning.
Key requirements
  • Postgraduate degree in Finance and Accounting.
  • Eight to ten years leading complex debt solutions across multiple products, sectors, clients or countries.
  • Complex debt‑structuring expertise and experience coordinating corporate functions and banking product teams.
  • Eight to ten years coaching, managing and coordinating teams, including delegation, KPIs and performance discussions.
  • Eight to ten years partnering with specialist risk areas and monitoring portfolio exposure.
  • Experience interpreting applicable regulation and managing debt solutions through changing market conditions.
  • Strong deal appraisal, negotiation, financial analysis and economic‑research capabilities.
  • Investment‑banking product knowledge, local‑market insight and strategic planning/reporting skills.
