Position: HSE Officer 6 Months Contract

Job duties & responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local and international regulations.
  • Ensure all policies are communicated effectively to all employees and contractors.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the mining operation.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Design and deliver safety training programs for all employees, including induction training for new hires and refresher courses.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.
  • Lead or support investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
  • Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Identify and rectify unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans for various scenarios.
  • Coordinate and conduct emergency drills and exercises to ensure readiness.
  • Implement and oversee waste management programs to ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Promote recycling and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and submit required reports and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of health, safety, and environmental incidents, audits, and inspections.
  • Prepare regular reports on HSE performance and progress.
  • Engage with employees, contractors, local communities, and other stakeholders on HSE issues.
  • Address concerns and provide information on safety and environmental practices.
  • Work closely with other departments and team members to integrate HSE considerations into all aspects of the mining project.
  • Provide guidance and support to line managers and supervisors on HSE matters.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve HSE programs and initiatives based on feedback and new developments.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry best practices, technologies, and regulations.
  • Any ad hoc tasks as requested by Management.

Education and Experience:

  • National Diploma in Safety Management or related qualification.
  • At least 8 years of experience within mining, specifically mineral processing industry.
  • Professional Registration will be preferred
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Mining Safety Act
