Job DescriptionHEAL SA is inviting experienced Wellness Social Worker (Education) to support our dynamic and growing organization and our education partners. As a Wellness Social Worker, you will play a critical role in providing support and guidance to students and the community. With your passion for helping others and your commitment to excellence, you will help make a positive impact on the students and community scope of this position includes primarily on‑line counselling (individual and group), mental wellness advocacy and training with high school students, undergraduate and post‑graduate students.
The successful incumbent must be an initiative‑taking and organized individual, able to work independently, and keep commitments.
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for mental health service programs.
- Offer individuals and group counselling and debriefing as required to students.
- Develop and implement intervention strategies to address social, emotional, and behavioral issues.
- Offer crisis intervention as needed, addressing urgent mental health or safety concerns.
- Design and implement collaborative preventative initiatives; psycho‑educative programmes training, facilitation and monitoring of holistic mental health and wellness advocacy programmes for the student community.
- Liaise with government agencies, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and other community organizations to coordinate services and referrals.
- Lead and mentor social worker interns/volunteers, providing supervision, training, and performance management.
- Degree in Social Work from a recognized educational institution.
- Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) or Health Profession Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- 5+ years’ experience in person and on‑line counselling (short term individual and group).
- Experience in the development and implementation of mental health and wellness advocacy programmes for students.
- Knowledge of the South African legislation governing child and youth care.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in practice.
- Excellent professional skills and experience to co‑ordinate, organize and implement mental health trainings, programmes, and presentations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to liaise effectively and professionally, with a wide range of partners.
- Occasional after‑hours workshops/presentations on campus and in residences.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Ethical and professional conduct in accordance with social work standards.
- Report writing, editing and research skills.
- Experience in working in the above areas at a Higher Educational Institution would be an advantage.
