job purpose

the researcher will conduct high-quality research drawing on multiple disciplines to address complex health challenges, with the aim of enhancing both the standard and volume of interdisciplinary scholarship within the faculty of health and wellness sciences. The role focuses on advancing knowledge in the health sciences while supporting evidence-based practice through the initiation of relevant research projects, strengthening research capacity, providing mentorship to researchers, and supervising postgraduate students.

The appointee will contribute across the full spectrum of academic functions, including teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervision of postgraduate students, community and industry engagement, academic administration, and the conduct of scholarly research. The primary focus of this appointment is to strengthen postgraduate research capacity within the faculty, particularly in inter- and transdisciplinary research. Accordingly, the incumbent will actively engage with researchers across all departments to identify and develop opportunities for multidisciplinary and collaborative research projects.

job knowledge, skills and experience

• relevant doctoral qualification in an appropriate health science field.
• at least four (4) years’ experience in a research and academic environment at higher education institution.
• evidence of undergraduate and/or postgraduate supervision.
• publications in peer-reviewed accredited journals.
• evidence of experience with inter-or intra- or multidisciplinary research project (s).
• experience in establishing national and international collaborative research networks.

• current registration with a professional or science board
• experience as a reviewer for accredited journals.
• citations of candidate’s work.
• production of/contribution to technical reports and/or registration of patents.
• qualification/training in post-graduate supervision.
• contribution to research capacity development. Experience as chair and/or member of research committee.

• oversee and contribute to capacity development and mentoring of students and staff in research.
