Introduction:
Are you a hands-on technical professional with strong Linux/Unix experience, looking to take the next step in your career? Our client is seeking a talented System Administrator to join their team in Cape Town — full-time, either on-site or hybrid. As the successful applicant, you’ll manage and optimise critical server infrastructure, ensure high availability, automate routine tasks and collaborate closely with developers and IT support teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure and maintain Linux/Unix servers (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, Solaris).
Monitor system performance, security and reliability.
Manage user accounts, access controls and permissions.
Perform regular backups and implement disaster-recovery procedures.
Troubleshoot server and network issues with speed and precision.
Automate routine tasks using shell scripting (Bash, Python, Ansible).
Work with virtualisation technologies (VMware, KVM or similar).
Collaborate with developers, support teams and management.
Maintain clear documentation of configurations, procedures and changes.
Familiarity (or hands-on experience) with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) is an advantage.
Required Experience &
Skills:
Minimum 3+ years’ experience as a System Administrator working in Linux/Unix environments.
Strong OS knowledge (Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, Solaris).
Solid networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls).
Virtualisation experience (VMware, KVM or similar).
Proficiency with system monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, etc.).
Scripting ability in Bash or Python.
Excellent communication, documentation and troubleshooting skills.
Detail-oriented, proactive, able to work independently and under pressure.
