The QA Lead / Test Centre of Excellence (TCoE) Lead is responsible for defining, leading, and continuously improving quality assurance practices across multiple delivery teams. The role ensures that software products are delivered with a high level of confidence, reliability, and fitness for purpose.

This position combines strategic ownership of quality standards with hands-on leadership of QA and quality engineering professionals. Working closely with engineering, product, and delivery leadership, the role ensures that quality is embedded throughout the entire delivery lifecycle.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Strategy and Standards
- Define and maintain organisation-wide QA and testing standards
- Establish, evolve, and champion testing strategies, frameworks, and best practices
- Define quality metrics, release readiness criteria, and risk thresholds
- Promote a shift-left and quality-engineering mindset across delivery teams
Test Centre of Excellence (TCoE) Leadership
- Build and lead a Test Centre of Excellence supporting multiple teams
- Ensure consistent application of testing practices across products and platforms
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to embedded QA practitioners
- Drive standardisation where it improves quality, efficiency, and scalability
Test Automation and Tooling
- Lead the adoption and continuous improvement of test automation practices
- Ensure the right balance between automated and exploratory/manual testing
- Oversee the selection and effective use of testing tools and frameworks
- Partner with Dev Ex / Dev Ops teams to integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines
Non-Functional Testing
- Define approaches for performance, reliability, and regression testing
- Partner with Architecture and Dev Sec Ops on security and resilience testing
- Ensure non-functional quality risks are identified and addressed early
Delivery Support and Risk Management
- Provide clear visibility of quality and testing risks to delivery leadership
- Support teams in making informed, evidence-based release decisions
- Escalate quality concerns when delivery pressure threatens agreed standards
- Ensure defects and quality issues are analysed and addressed systematically
- Line-manage QA and quality engineering professionals
- Conduct performance reviews and support ongoing career development
- Identify skills gaps and contribute to hiring and capability growth
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance quality culture
The QA Lead / TCoE Lead works closely with:
- Engineering Capability Leads and Team Leads
- Delivery Managers and Product Owners
- UX, Data Science, Platform, and Architecture teams
- Dev Ex / Dev Ops / Dev Sec Ops teams
- Agile Coaches and senior stakeholders
- Significant experience in software testing or quality engineering
- Proven experience leading QA teams or QA functions
- Strong understanding of modern testing practices and automation
- Experience working across multiple delivery teams
- Ability to communicate quality risks clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in SaaS or platform-based environments
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices
- Experience with performance, security, or reliability testing
- Background working in Agile or Lean delivery environments
- Quality leadership and sound judgement
- Systems thinking
- Attention to detail balanced with pragmatism
- Clear, evidence-based communication
- Ability to influence without direct authority
Success in this role will be measured by:
- Consistency and effectiveness of QA practices across teams
- Reduction in late-stage defects and rework
Increased test automation coverage and effectiveness - Improved release confidence and predictability
- Positive feedback from engineering and delivery leadership
