Junior Data Analyst (Cape Town) – 6-Month Contract

Junior Data Analyst on contract with experience in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Reporting, or a related field, with practical exposure to SQL, data visualization tools (Power BI/Tableau), data cleaning, and business reporting.

Position Overview:

As the Junior Data Analyst (Contractor) will work closely with the team and business stakeholders to collect, clean, interpret, and analyse data while developing reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions that support strategic decision-making across the organisation and its customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect, clean, and validate data from multiple internal and external sources to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Build and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualisations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI platforms.
• Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies and present findings to stakeholders.
• Write and optimise SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyse data from relational databases.
• Support senior analysts and data scientists with ongoing projects and ad hoc analytical requests.
• Document data definitions, business rules, processes, and analytical methodologies.
• Collaborate with Finance, Marketing, Operations, and other business units to understand data requirements and provide actionable insights.
• Monitor data pipelines and identify data quality issues requiring resolution.
• Develop and maintain data dictionaries and data catalogues to ensure consistent metric definitions across the organisation.
• Prepare and present regular performance and KPI reports to management.
• Assist in defining, measuring, and tracking KPIs aligned to business objectives.
• Conduct data profiling and root cause analysis to investigate variances and unexpected changes in business performance.
• Support the design, execution, and analysis of A/B testing and other business experiments.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of reporting processes, analytics frameworks, and data management practices.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends, tools, and technologies in data analytics.
• Ensure compliance with data governance policies, privacy regulations, and information security standards.

• Diploma or Degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Economics, or a related field.

• 0 - 1 years of experience in Data Analysis, Reporting, Business Intelligence, or a similar role.
• Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases.
• Experience developing dashboards and reports using Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including data manipulation and reporting.
• Understanding of data quality, validation, and governance principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to present technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.

Advantageous

Skills:

• Experience with Python or R for data analysis.
• Knowledge of DAX, Power Query, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
• Exposure to statistical analysis and experimentation methodologies.
• Familiarity with cloud-based analytics platforms and modern BI tools.
