Our client based in Cape Town, Northern Suburbs is seeking a Data Centre Co-ordinator to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for responsible for the efficient maintenance, installation, decommissioning and coordination of all Interconnect Cabling, Power Distribution Units installations, Remote Hands and Smart Hands support within the Data Centre, as well as for all Ad-Hoc client support requirements.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
  • Full installation & Decommissioning of communication cables in line with customer requirements (CAT5e, CAT6 and Fibre). This will include installing, testing and labelling new cables, uploading test results and documenting cable routes within stipulated SLA turnaround times
  • Testing and troubleshooting cabling issues which will include CAT6, Single mode & Multimode fibreoptic cabling with appropriate testing instruments, i.e. OTDR, Power Meter, Light Source, Copper & Coax testers, etc
  • Basic network understanding and troubleshooting methods, Loopback testing on copper, fibre, SFP’s, etc
  • Power Distribution Unit (In Rack PDU) configuration, physical installation, firmware updates and fault finding.
  • Executing Remote Hands requests with or on behalf of clients, where the requirement may be to reboot servers, patching, labelling, auditing and/or Tape / Media swaps.
  • Knowledge with working in the Wireless and PTP space. This will include the use of media conversion from fibre to copper and vice versa.
  • Comply to working methods ensuring all SLA and MSA’s are achieved.
  • Maintaining good working methods to ensure uptime of 99.99% of data cabling infrastructure.
  • Run all scheduled jobs as instructed by the Infrastructure Supervisor / Data Centre Manager.
  • Conduct administrative tasks to ensure efficient and organized data centre systems.
  • Ensure work operations are carried out in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Where necessary liaise with other support staff or teams to ensure uptime maximization and delivery of high-quality services.

Compliance:
  • Maintain compliance in accordance with all relative policies and procedures.
  • Meet agreed inter-departmental OLA (Operational Level Agreement)
  • H&S monitoring and corrective action to meet statutory compliance, SLAs and good business practice
Critical System Management:
  • Ensure applicable planned and corrective maintenance is managed in accordance to ensure customer MSA’s and SLA’s are achieved and maintained.
  • Task finalisation and report accurately, as per agreed format, quality and within the agreed timelines.
