JobOverview
The Data Privacy Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of privacy policies and procedures across Standard Bank's South African operations. This role is critical in safeguarding customer data, ensuring compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and aligning with global standards such as GDPR. The successful candidate will collaborate with legal, IT, and business units to embed privacy by design into all processes, while providing strategic guidance to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain a comprehensive privacy program that meets POPIA, GDPR, and other applicable regulations.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new projects, products, and services.
- Provide expert advice to business units on data handling, consent management, and cross-border data transfers.
- Lead incident response activities related to data breaches, including investigation, reporting, and remediation.
- Monitor regulatory developments and update policies accordingly.
- Deliver privacy training and awareness programs for employees at all levels.
- Collaborate with IT security teams to ensure technical controls align with privacy requirements.
- Prepare and submit regular compliance reports to senior management and regulators.
- In-depth knowledge of POPIA, GDPR, and other data protection laws.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment abilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in privacy management tools and data mapping techniques.
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business solutions.
- Experience with incident response and breach notification processes.
A Bachelor's degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or CIPM are highly desirable.
ExperienceMinimum of five years' experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security roles, preferably within the financial services sector. Demonstrated experience in leading privacy programs and conducting PIAs is essential.
SalaryThe role offers a competitive salary ranging from ZAR 600,000 to ZAR 900,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance-based incentives may be provided.
