Tier 2 Network Support Engineer required in Cape Town.
Be part of a growing IT services company as they build out a brand-new technical support team within. This role suits a seasoned Tier 2 Engineer who thrives on solving meaty infrastructure problems, taking real ownership of client environments, and getting stuck into project work, not just ticket-closing.
There’s genuine growth potential here. It could be the right fit for a solid Tier 2 Engineer ready to step up, or someone already working at near-Tier 3 level looking for a clear runway into a senior technical position.
You’ll get broad exposure across support, infrastructure, networking, server environments and client projects — with plenty of scope to make a visible impact on the team.
Core tech stack:
Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, PKI, VMware, Hyper‑V, Exchange, SAN/NAS, VLANs, routing, firewalls, LAN/WAN/MPLS, WiFi, Mimecast, Barracuda, Veeam, Acronis, Microsoft Azure and Fortinet.
What you’ll be doing:
- Owning escalated technical issues and driving them to resolution
- Delivering support that consistently meets SLA targets
- Troubleshooting and supporting client server, network and infrastructure setups
- Rolling out infrastructure changes, upgrades and migrations
- Contributing to hardware, software, Wintel and virtualisation projects
- Helping plan, implement and deliver projects end-to-end
- Assisting with scoping and pricing at the pre‑sales stage
- Putting together SOWs, deliverables, project plans and timelines
- Keeping clients in the loop through incidents, changes and project work
- Spotting opportunities to boost performance, stability and security in client environments
- Documenting processes to keep things consistent and repeatable
- Building solid relationships with clients and internal teams alike
- Working in server rooms and data centres when needed, including racking and hardware installs
- Turning client requirements into practical, workable solutions
What you’ll bring:
- Around 5-8 years in IT support, ideally with MSP experience (or a mix of internal/external support)
- Strong hands‑on skills with Windows Server 2012 R2 through 2022
- Intermediate‑advanced AD, DNS, DHCP, IIS and PKI knowledge
- Good working knowledge of VMware vSphere and/or Hyper‑V
- A solid grip on IP addressing and subnetting
- Familiarity with SAN/NAS storage
- Understanding of VLANs, routing, firewall behaviour and packet shaping
- Experience with UTM and firewall tech
- Exposure to LAN, WAN and MPLS environments
- WiFi support experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange
- Exposure to security tools like antivirus, Mimecast, Barracuda or similar
- Comfortable in server rooms and data centres
A structured, ITIL-minded approach to incidents, requests and changes - Strong communication skills, confident dealing directly with clients
- A self‑starter who owns problems, manages priorities and sees things through
- Certifications: Preference given to candidates with Fortinet NSE 1-3 and/or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals. A+, N+, MS 365, VMware, Hyper‑V, Veeam or Acronis certs are all a bonus.
Sound like you?
If you’re an experienced support engineer looking for broader exposure, more ownership, and a genuine path toward Tier 3 or technical leadership, this one’s worth a look.
