Tech Team Lead

A leading South African financial services team is looking for a Tech Lead to own the technical direction of its intermediary digital platform. Financial advisers use the platform for client journeys, tools, data and insights across the group’s risk, savings and investment businesses.

This is a senior leadership role. You’ll lead mainly through influence, delegation and strategy rather than day-to-day coding, while keeping the technical credibility to go deep on architecture when it counts.

What you’ll do

• Define and drive the platform’s technical strategy and roadmap, aligned to business strategy
• Lead multiple engineering teams and develop Tech Leads and senior engineers
• Make architectural decisions across systems and teams, and set engineering standards and governance
• Partner with Product and Design leadership to turn strategy into robust technical solutions
• Lead large-scale initiatives such as platform modernisation and architectural change
• Coordinate multi-team delivery and manage risks, dependencies and bottlenecks
• Represent engineering in executive forums, explaining direction, risks and trade-offs
• Raise the bar on reliability, security, incident management and operational maturity
• Contribute to hiring, team design and performance management

What you’ll bring

• 12–15+ years in software engineering, including significant time in senior technical or engineering management roles
• Experience leading multiple teams or complex technical domains in enterprise environments
• Strong architectural depth and credibility in complex technical discussions
• A track record of influencing senior stakeholders without direct authority
• Experience driving change at scale and building high-performing engineering organisations
• Excellent communication, with the ability to make complex concepts clear to any audience
• A resilient, collaborative, customer-focused and results-driven approach
• A degree or diploma in IT, Computer Science or a related field
