TECHNICAL & MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST – AMPHIBIOUS VEHICLES
Location: V&A Waterfront, Cape Town Department: Operations / Technical Contract Type: Permanent (Flexible working arrangement available)
OverviewA unique and exciting opportunity exists within an amphibious tourism business operating at the V&A Waterfront. We are seeking a highly experienced, multi‑skilled technical specialist to take full responsibility for the maintenance, operational readiness, and preventative care of our fleet of two amphibious vehicles.
This role is ideal for a seasoned professional — possibly nearing retirement or seeking a more flexible, focused workload — who enjoys hands‑on technical work across mechanical, marine, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Minimum Requirements- Minimum Grade 12
- Broad technical experience across: – Hydraulics – Diesel mechanics – Truck/Bus mechanics – Automotive electrical systems – Marine/boating mechanics – General repairs (welding, painting, corrosion management, fabrication)
- Previous experience maintaining specialised vehicles or mixed mechanical systems
- Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving ability
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Trustworthy, reliable, disciplined, and safety‑conscious
- Experience with Fiat V6, Iveco V6, or Volvo V6 engines advantageous
- Ability to liaise with international manufacturers for technical support
- Comfortable working in a workshop/garage environment
- Willingness to work flexible hours depending on operational needs
- Conduct daily pre‑operation QC inspections and complete reports
- Perform weekly technical checks and submit findings
- Carry out monthly preventative maintenance tasks
- Conduct quarterly technical inspections and scheduled maintenance activities
- Perform full annual services on each vehicle, including: – Diesel engine – Drive‑train – Hydraulics – Brakes – Steering – All other mechanical and marine systems
- Attend to ad‑hoc breakdowns and technical issues
- Manage outsourced contractors when repairs fall outside in‑house capability
- Ensure fast turnaround to maximise vehicle uptime
- Liaise with UK‑based vehicle manufacturers for technical guidance
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and service logs
- Support implementation of a tablet‑based vehicle management system
- Ensure all work meets safety, compliance, and operational standards
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
- Manage tools, equipment, and consumables
- Conduct general repairs including welding, painting, and corrosion control
- Highly experienced, multi‑disciplinary technical professional
- Strong mechanical aptitude across automotive and marine systems
- Enjoys hands‑on work and problem solving
- Reliable, self‑driven, and able to work independently
- Looking for a stable, focused role with a defined scope
- Comfortable with flexible working hours depending on operational schedules
