Seamstress

As a Seamstress at Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, you are responsible for the fit, alter and repairs of both guest and staff clothing. If you’re looking to develop your skills and be part of the future of luxury, this is your moment.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Fit, alter, and repair, according to guest request.
• Perform repairs to hotel upholstery.
• Repurpose the condemned linen into cloths or other items as requested.
• Perform alterations, sew hems, fix tears, mend zippers and apply buttons.
• Assist in the Laundry or Housekeeping department when required.
• Repair or replace defective garment parts such as pockets, zippers, snaps, buttons, and linings.
• Assist with quarterly OE stock count as and when required.
• Responsible for alterations and repair to staff uniforms.
• Assist in the uniform storeroom as and when required.
• Submit requests for repair and periodic maintenance of sewing equipment.

Requirements

What You Bring:

• Minimum of 1 year experience in the role, within a hotel environment advantageous.
• Matric or equivalent education preferred
• Previous luxury hospitality experience – advantageous
• Previous experience in operating & using a modern sewing machine, over lock machine, heat seal, steam iron, scissors, rippers and bolt cutters in a safe and efficient manner
• Experience in fixing tears, repairing seams and performing alterations of garments.
• Knowledge of linings, fabrics, creating solid seams, cutting patterns and pieces and working with linen and curtains.
• Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques.
• Basic understanding of design and fashion principles.
• Basic math skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• Good hand-eye coordination skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
