Duties & Responsibilities SHEQ Compliance Management

  • Ensure compliance with company, client and statutory SHEQ requirements.
  • Manage and maintain the Permit-to-Work system and associated registers.
  • Review and approve Job Loss Analysis (JLA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and risk assessment documentation.
  • Verify completion of Pre-Task Hazard Assessments prior to high-risk activities.
  • Facilitate employee and contractor toolbox talks.
  • Participate in client and internal Safety Committee meetings.
  • Promote safe working practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support implementation of SHEQ objectives and improvement plans.
Workplace Inspections, Audits and Verification
  • Conduct planned and ad hoc workplace inspections.
  • Perform Verification and Validation (V&V) inspections.
  • Audit contractor activities against site requirements.
  • Conduct inspections of tools, equipment and PPE.
  • Issue Stop Work instructions where necessary.
  • Ensure timely closure of inspection findings.
  • Maintain all inspection records and registers.
Contractor Safety Management
  • Key Outputs Conduct contractor and supplier SHEQ inductions.
  • Review contractor safety files and legal compliance documentation.
  • Verify contractor competency, training and site authorisations.
  • Monitor contractor compliance during execution of work.
  • Participate in contractor performance reviews.
  • Escalate contractor non-conformances and monitor corrective actions.
  • Ensure pre-start meetings and risk assessments are completed before work commences.
Incident Management
  • Report and investigate incidents, accidents and near-miss events.
  • Assist with root cause analysis investigations.
  • Develop corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Monitor implementation and close-out of corrective actions.
  • Conduct incident trend analysis.
  • Share lessons learned with employees and contractors.
  • Support initiatives aimed at reducing incident recurrence.
Safety Culture and Employee Engagement
  • Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the workplace.
  • Encourage hazard identification and near-miss reporting.
  • Conduct safety awareness campaigns and SHEQ initiatives.
  • Drive behavioural safety interventions.
  • Support employee participation in SHEQ programmes.
  • Recognise and promote positive safety behaviours.
Vehicle and Asset Compliance
  • Conduct weekly vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain vehicle inspection records and logbooks.
  • Ensure vehicles remain roadworthy and legally compliant.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair requirements.
  • Monitor compliance with fleet management procedures.
Reporting and Performance Monitoring
  • Maintain SHEQ records, registers and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare monthly SHEQ KPI reports.
  • Track performance against SHEQ targets.
  • Analyse trends and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Escalate significant risks and recurring non-conformances.
  • Provide accurate management information for decision-making.
Quality, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Standards
  • Adhere to all requirements of the Tsebo SHEQ Management System.
  • Support compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.
  • Support continual improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with client management systems and contractual obligations.
Skills and Competencies
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and applicable regulations.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Contractor Safety Management.
  • Permit-to-Work Systems.
  • Risk Assessment, JSA, JLA and HIRA methodologies.
  • Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis techniques.
  • Workplace inspections and auditing methodologies.
  • Emergency preparedness and response procedures.
  • SHEQ reporting and data analysis.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
  • Report writing and presentation skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • National Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) Training.
  • Permit-to-Work (PTW) System Training.
Experience
  • 1 to 3 years' experience in a Health and Safety role within an industrial, refinery, manufacturing or facilities management environment.
  • Experience managing contractors and Permit-to-Work systems.
  • Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits and compliance verifications.
  • Experience investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions.
