Job Purpose
A security officer must be well‑trained in surveillance and dealing with perpetrators. The ideal candidate will inspire respect and authority as well as possess a high level of observation.
The goal is to help the company in maintaining excellent working conditions by keeping facilities safe and problem‑free.
The use of a patrol dog provides a higher level of protection to the client as well as the dog handler. Patrol dog’s acts as a pre‑warning to potential criminals. Patrol dogs are very effective in the tracking and arresting of suspects. Dog handlers must act responsibly when a patrol dog is used to apprehend a suspect. No excessive force may be used to apprehend a suspect.
If a suspect doesn’t resist, a dog may not assist.
- Conduct regular patrols of premises with the K9 to deter unauthorized access, theft, or vandalism.
- Inspect perimeters, gates, vehicles, and buildings for signs of intrusion or suspicious activity.
- Use the dog’s enhanced senses (smell, hearing) to detect hidden persons or objects.
- Respond to alarms, disturbances, or security breaches promptly.
- Feed, water, and groom the K9 daily to maintain its health and performance.
- Exercise and rest the dog appropriately to keep it alert and balanced.
- Monitor for illness or injury and ensure regular veterinary check‑ups.
- Maintain clean, safe, and comfortable kennel and transport conditions.
- Conduct ongoing obedience and detection training to maintain the K9’s effectiveness.
- Participate in refresher courses or certification programs as required by the company or authorities.
- Record all training sessions, certifications, and performance results.
- Keep detailed records of patrols, incidents, and K9 deployments.
- Prepare incident reports when the K9 is used in an operational situation.
- Maintain health, training, and work logs for compliance and accountability.
- Follow all legal and company policies regarding the use of working dogs.
- Ensure safe handling and control of the K9 at all times.
- Adhere to health and safety standards for both handler and dog.
- Understand and respect animal welfare regulations.
- PSIRA C – Grade (Registered and up to date)
- Grade 12
- Ability to solve problems
- Good interpersonal skills
- Dog Handler qualification
- Passion to work with dogs
- Reside in the areas of Strand, Somerset West and Stellenbosch
- No criminal record
