Engineering Manager, MAAS – Canonical

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, with Ubuntu being a widely used platform in enterprise initiatives. The MAAS team delivers Metal as a Service, a cloud‑style on‑demand API for private bare‑metal infrastructure.

Work‑from‑anywhere position available in EMEA or the Americas.

• Lead a distributed team of engineers across time zones
• Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career planning
• Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
• Advocate and advance modern software development practices
• Participate in engineering processes through code and architectural review
• Engage with broader teams at Canonical, the open source community, and partners
• Travel to internal and external events 4 to 6 weeks per year

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field
• Exceptional academic track record
• Experience delivering software with Python, Golang, or similar languages
• Experience with Linux system administration (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
• Familiarity with modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and K8s
• Technical aptitude for distributed systems
• Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
• Experience with agile software development methodologies
• Ability to mentor, develop, and support team members
• Result‑oriented with a drive to meet commitments
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks

• Type Script with modern web frameworks (React, Angular, Svelte, Vue)
• Data center infrastructure management and design
