Senior Fullstack Engineer - POS Team

Overview

Yoco is a payments provider for small businesses, with a mission to unlock economic opportunities and simplify commerce. The team focuses on bold, simple, progressive solutions and values diverse perspectives to build solutions that make life easier for emerging businesses.

The POS team is responsible for the UI components of the Yoco POS system and the associated backend components. Yoco POS runs on our own Yoco Counter hardware and on stand-alone tablets or phones. The team contributes to growth at Yoco and works on exciting feature development for the POS app and business-owner focused features in the Yoco app.

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer, you will be an individual contributor contributing to system design aligned with Yoco’s technical direction. You will deliver new features quickly with high quality and meet non-functional requirements such as availability, security, and performance. You will contribute to system designs for features that expand our solution and mentor junior software engineers. You will initiate and contribute to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to improve speed and quality of delivery.

• Coding front-end interfaces in React or React Native
• Developing backends in JVM-based languages (Scala/Kotlin) in a cloud-native environment (K8s / AWS)
• Writing unit tests and improving code quality with refactors
• Assisting the team with improvements to the stability of the POS product and components they own
• Collaborating on work that spans multiple teams
• Improving the Software development lifecycle (SDLC) including system designs, writing technical requirements, improving regression testing, and release management

• Delivery of features with minimal customer support queries
• Successful collaboration on work that spans multiple teams within Yoco
• Continuous improvement of code quality through comprehensive unit tests and code refactors

• 7+ years of experience as a full-stack software engineer, preferably using React Native for frontend and a JVM-based language for backend
• Experience designing and building systems with challenging non-functional requirements (availability, security, performance, etc.)
• Experience working as part of a globally distributed team
• Experience in a product-based company
• Ability to thrive with a high level of autonomy and responsibility
• Experience in payments or POS is a bonus
