Overview
AI Engineer
Design and build cutting-edge MCP servers and AI integrations in a high-impact, research-driven environment
Remote (Cape Town-based candidates only; 1–2 days/month in-office), R80 000 – R100 000/month

With a commitment to research, open-source contributions, and practical AI applications, they offer a collaborative environment for engineers to shape the future of AI-enabled products.
- 3+ years of experience in machine learning, AI, or related fields
- Design and build MCP servers and secure context management systems
- Create custom MCP integrations for databases, APIs, and tools
- Train, optimise, and deploy machine learning and LLM-based models
- Develop robust ML pipelines and conduct performance tuning
- Build and integrate AI features, agents, and RAG-based systems
- Develop APIs and services for model inference and tool use
- Stay current with MCP specifications, AI/ML trends, and tools
- Participate in architecture decisions, technical discussions, and documentation
- BSc, BSc Honours, or MSc in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong Python and Type Script/JavaScript programming skills
- Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensor Flow, or JAX
- Familiarity with Hugging Face, Lang Chain, Llama Index, and similar tools
- Solid knowledge of ML fundamentals and model evaluation techniques
- Experience building APIs and working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Strong understanding of client-server architectures and CI/CD practices
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- PhD or published AI research
- Experience with MCP server development and open-source contributions
- Familiarity with LLMs, transformer architectures, RLHF, and vector databases
- Experience with agent frameworks (AutoGPT, Lang Graph, CrewAI, etc.)
- Background in AI safety, ethical AI, NLP, computer vision, or edge deployment
