The AI Engineer II is responsible for implementing machine learning and AI capabilities as production-ready software within product engineering teams
.

This role works closely with Data Scientists, software engineers, and product teams to transform research outputs, models, and experimental prototypes into reliable, scalable, and maintainable software systems
.

The AI Engineer ensures that AI capabilities are effectively integrated into real-world products and services
, bridging the gap between research and production environments.

This role requires strong software engineering fundamentals combined with practical experience working with machine learning models, data pipelines, and AI-driven systems
.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building production systems
• Must have a matric | grade 12 certificate
• Experience working with machine learning or AI-based systems
• Experience building backend services and APIs
• Experience collaborating with Data Scientists or working with ML models
• Experience working within agile software development teams

• Implement machine learning and AI capabilities within production software systems
• Translate research outputs and experimental models into scalable, maintainable code
• Integrate trained models into application backends and services
• Work with engineering teams to embed AI capabilities into product features

• Work closely with Data Scientists to understand model behaviour, limitations, and operational requirements
• Assist with ope rationalising models and experimentation outputs
• Improve the reliability and maintainability of AI-driven systems
• Support the transition of models from experimentation to production environments

• Develop robust backend services that incorporate AI capabilities
• Build APIs and services that expose AI functionality to product applications
• Contribute to system architecture decisions involving data and AI components
• Maintain high standards for code quality, maintainability, and performance
• Implement model serving and inference pipelines
• Integrate AI capabilities with existing application architectures
• Ensure models operate reliably within production environments
• Monitor and improve the performance and stability of deployed AI components

• Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and engineering discussions
• Collaborate with Product Owners and engineering teams to implement AI-driven features
• Contribute to iterative product delivery within agile development teams
