SAP ABAP Developer - HCM & Payroll (Contract) Cape Town

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior SAP ABAP Developer with strong SAP HCM/HR and Payroll development experience to join their team on an initial 12-month contract.

This is a business improvement-focused role, requiring a developer who can work beyond day-to-day technical support to understand business requirements, identify opportunities for improvement and deliver effective SAP solutions.

The successful candidate will work across SAP development within the HR and Payroll environment, with experience spanning both SAP ECC and HANA/S/4

HANA environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance and maintain SAP solutions using ABAP
• Deliver technical solutions supporting SAP HCM/HR and Payroll processes
• Analyse existing SAP processes and identify opportunities for improvement and optimisation
• Translate business and functional requirements into effective technical solutions
• Develop and maintain reports, interfaces, enhancements, forms and custom SAP functionality
• Work with BAdIs, user exits, enhancement frameworks and ABAP Objects
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve complex SAP development issues
• Optimise existing ABAP developments for performance and maintainability
• Support integration between SAP HCM/Payroll and other SAP or external systems
• Work with functional consultants, business stakeholders and technical teams to deliver improvements
• Contribute to solution design, technical documentation, testing and deployment
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across the SAP environment
• Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent SAP development experience
• Strong commercial experience as a Senior SAP ABAP Developer
• Proven experience within SAP HCM / HR
• Strong experience with SAP Payroll (PY) development
• Experience working in SAP ECC
• Experience with SAP HANA and/or S/4

• Strong knowledge of ABAP Objects / ABAP OO
• Experience with enhancements, BAdIs and user exits
• Experience developing SAP reports, interfaces and forms
• Strong debugging and problem-solving capabilities
• Experience translating business requirements into technical SAP solutions
• Ability to engage effectively with both technical and business stakeholders

• Experience with ABAP on HANA
• CDS Views
• AMDP
• SAP HCM integrations
• Experience with SAP HCM/Payroll optimisation or transformation initiatives
• Experience with in a large, complex SAP environment
• Retail or other high-volume business environment experience

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a technically strong Senior ABAP Developer who combines deep SAP development capability with practical HCM and Payroll knowledge.

You should be comfortable understanding the underlying business process, identifying where SAP functionality can be improved, and developing robust technical solutions rather than simply delivering isolated coding requirements.
