Position: 1.0 High School French Immersion and other teaching duties Position

Full-time TERM High School French Immersion with other teaching duties classroom position, Carbonear Collegiate, Carbonear. Duties to commence September 8, 2026, until December 22, 2026, or until Incumbent Returns.

As a French second language teacher you will have a critical role in ensuring student achievement as specified in the curriculum guides of French programs. You are committed to furthering the goals for student success in an inclusive, safe and caring bilingual environment. You subscribe to a "students first" philosophy in your practice and believe that collaboration is key for your growth as an educator.

If selected for an interview, candidates should be prepared to speak about their experience and demonstrated competencies in relation to the 8 Standards of Practice for Classroom Teachers (outlined below):

  • Know learners and how they learn (Connaître les élèves et leurs modes d'apprentissage)
  • Know the content and teaching strategies (Maîtriser le contenu et les stratégies pédagogiques)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the outcomes and specific content expertise and second language teaching methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability, experience and commitment to ensure culturally relevant instruction and assessment for all students.
  • The ability to balance language instruction with content delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability of an accurate and fluent linguistic model to ensure a language rich learning environment.
  • Ability to ensure and facilitate authentic interactive strategies for the progressive development of French second language learning.
  • Knowledge and experience in appropriate second language literacy development through a variety of differentiated strategies and resources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Education
    - Secondary with French Major (10 courses)
  • NL Teaching Certificate
    - Level IV or higher
  • Minimum of B2 DELF Assessment (70% overall average with no less than 60% minimum in all 4 components)
  • French First Language applicants may be considered equivalent
  • Equivalencies will be considered

Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.

Applicants without the required qualifications may be considered in accordance with Clause 37.01 (d) of the provincial collective agreement.

Please note that candidates designated as Recommendable in 2024 or 2025 individual or pool competitions will have that designation carried over for 2026 and will not require an interview for similar positions.

Interviews that occur during this hiring season will be designated as Recommendable or Not Recommendable at this time.
