Mitchell Associates are looking to appoint a Trainee Accounts Assistant to join its team:
Location: Offices in Cardiff, Merthyr and Brecon, location of office to be determined upon successful appointment (most suitable office for individual)
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

As our firm continues to grow, we are looking for a motivated Trainee Accounts Assistant to join our friendly and professional team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has started their AAT studies and is looking to build a long‑term career in accountancy within a supportive and forward‑thinking practice environment.
The RoleWorking alongside experienced accountants and advisers, you will gain valuable hands‑on experience across a range of accounting and bookkeeping services while continuing your professional development through AAT studies.
This role offers genuine career progression opportunities and exposure to a broad client base across a variety of sectors.
Key Responsibilities- Assisting with the preparation of year‑end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
- Preparing and reviewing VAT returns
- Assisting with management accounts and financial reporting
- Supporting senior team members with client assignments and projects
- Liaising with clients and responding to day‑to‑day queries
- Maintaining accurate client records and working papers
- Providing general administrative support to the accounts team
The ideal candidate will have:
- AAT Level 2, Level 3 or early stages of Level 4 studies
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice environment
- Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- A professional and confident communication style
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Experience using Xero or other cloud accounting software would be advantageous
- Full support with your ongoing AAT studies
