Senior Credit Controller – Standalone Role

Cardiff

Up to £35,000 DOE

Hybrid working – 3 days office / 2 days home

Are you an experienced Senior Credit Controller looking for a role where you can take ownership, work autonomously and really make a difference?

We’re working with a growing and ambitious organisation that is expanding its operations and is looking for an experienced Credit Controller to take responsibility for the credit control function across its Wales-based business. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, is highly organised and structured, and has the confidence to take ownership of a busy and complex ledger.

About the role

You’ll be responsible for managing the full credit control function, working closely with the Finance Manager and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.  With an annual group turnover of around £85m, the role offers plenty of variety and scale. The billing operation is substantial, with the Wales business generating around £4m–£6m of invoices each month, so this is certainly not your typical credit control role!

What will you be doing?

Taking ownership of the credit control function and full credit ledger across multiple group companies.

Managing the collection of outstanding debt.

Building strong relationships with customers and resolving queries promptly.

Matching and reconciling customer remittances against invoices – often requiring investigation.

Investigating and allocating unallocated cash receipts.

Managing sales invoicing and ensuring invoices are accurate and raised on time.

Working closely with operational and commercial teams regarding new placements, changes and contracts.

Raising credit notes where required.

Producing weekly debtor reports and month-end reporting for senior management.

Providing analysis and reporting on overdue and complex accounts.

Working with senior management on the collection of challenging or aged debt.

Supporting the development of robust accounts receivable controls and processes.

Identifying opportunities to streamline and improve existing processes.

Supporting the wider finance team and assisting with annual audit requirements.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Credit Controller or Credit Control Manager who is confident managing a busy ledger and can work with a high degree of autonomy.

You’ll ideally have:

Strong experience within credit control, ideally at Senior Credit Controller or Credit Control Manager level.

Experience with in a services-based, B2B.

Strong understanding of credit risk, cash collection and debtor management.

Excellent attention to detail and a highly organised, structured approach.

Strong Excel skills and confidence using accounting systems.

Excellent analytical and numerical skills, particularly when reconciling payments and investigating discrepancies.

The confidence to communicate with customers and internal stakeholders at all levels.

The ability to work independently, prioritise your workload and make decisions.

A proactive approach to identifying improvements and strengthening processes.

AAT or equivalent would be advantageous but is not essential, experience, attitude and the ability to take ownership of the role are what really matter.

What's on offer?

Up to £35,000 salary, depending on experience.

Full-time, permanent position.

37.5 hours per week, 9am–5pm.

Hybrid working – 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

Employer pension contribution of 3%.

The opportunity to take ownership of a key finance function within a growing organisation.

A varied role working across a complex and interesting customer base.

The chance to make a real impact by improving processes, reporting and cash collection.

If you’re an experienced Credit Controller who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and getting to the bottom of a complex ledger, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today for a confidential conversation and to find out more about the organisation and opportunity
