Job SummaryThe Pre‑Operative Assessment (POAC) Directorate at Cardiff and Vale University Hospital Board is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the reception team. As the first point of contact for patients attending the service, you will play a key role in delivering a welcoming and supportive experience.
Main Duties- Make and receive telephone calls from patients, relatives and clinicians, identifying caller needs, recording information accurately and taking appropriate action.
- Provide a positive, courteous front‑of‑house service by meeting and greeting patients and completing clerking‑in procedures on arrival.
- Manage patient appointments – add patients to waiting lists, book, cancel and amend appointments to ensure accurate records and optimal use of clinic capacity.
- Process referral requests promptly, prioritising urgent cases and escalating any referrals that do not meet access criteria for supervisory review.
- Work collaboratively with the Pre‑Operative Assessment nursing team, providing clerical support to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations.
- Welsh language skills are desirable;

Essential personal qualities
- Excellent telephone manner and pleasant personality.
- Ability to work under pressure and on own initiative.
- Good communication, keyboard and organisational skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Previous reception experience.
- Previous NHS experience.
- Good standard of education – GCSE level or equivalent.
