At Ofgem, robust economic evidence sits at the heart of decisions that affect millions of energy consumers, and we’re seeking a Senior Econometrician to strengthen how we use data to understand markets and shape policy.

Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. We’re at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers, especially vulnerable people.

We’re offering a permanent opportunity within our Office of Research and Economics to work at the centre of energy market analysis. You’ll have access to uniquely granular data on consumer behaviour, pricing and outcomes, using it to generate insight that directly informs some of our most significant regulatory and policy decisions.

You’ll apply advanced econometric techniques to assess causation, advise on natural experiments and evaluate the distributional impact of policies. Balancing rapid‑response analysis with longer‑term research, you’ll help answer urgent market questions while contributing to deeper pieces of work that shape how markets are understood. Through this, you’ll see your analysis translated quickly into real‑world decisions with tangible impact on households and businesses across Great Britain.

You’ll also play a visible role in strengthening our data capability, identifying opportunities to develop new data products and championing better use of evidence across the organisation.

We’re looking for someone with strong econometric capability and wider analytical skills, including hypothesis development, coding in R and/or Python and data visualisation. You’ll combine technical excellence with the ability to work at pace and engage confidently with stakeholders. A proven track record of delivering high‑quality analysis on time, alongside experience leading innovative data initiatives, will be key.

In return, you’ll join a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment where your work has direct policy relevance and public impact. You’ll benefit from a range of rewards and a comprehensive package that will support your professional and personal ambitions.

We have a critical purpose to ensure energy markets work in the interests of consumers, today and in the future. Join us and help provide the economic insight that underpins fair, evidence‑based regulation.
