As organisations generate increasing volumes of data and content, the ability to manage information throughout its lifecycle—ensuring it is secure, accessible and compliant—has become a critical capability. At Ofgem, strong information management underpins regulatory effectiveness, supports legal obligations and ensures that information can be trusted and used to deliver better outcomes.

Ofgem plays a vital role in protecting energy consumers and supporting the UK’s transition to a more secure, fair and sustainable energy system. As the organisation continues to evolve, maintaining high standards of information and records management is essential to ensuring compliance with legislation, safeguarding information assets and enabling effective collaboration. Working within the newly formed Data, AI & Information Governance team, in Digital Data & AI, this role contributes directly to ensuring Ofgem meets its statutory and regulatory responsibilities.

As an Information Management Specialist, you will play a key role in strengthening Ofgem’s information and records management framework. You will support the development and maintenance of policies, processes and standards that underpin information governance, while providing practical advice and guidance to colleagues across the organisation on information handling, records management and lifecycle requirements.

This is a role with meaningful organisational impact, combining policy, governance and hands‑on delivery. You will work across teams to embed best practice, support compliance with legislation such as the Freedom of Information Act and Data Protection Act, and help ensure that information is well‑managed and used appropriately in line with government standards.

You will be responsible for:
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on information and records management, helping colleagues apply best practice and meet organisational and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of Ofgem’s information management policies, processes, and guidance to ensure they remain effective and up to date.
  • Developing and maintaining retention and disposal schedules for electronic and physical records, throughout their lifecycle.
  • Working with teams across the organisation to promote good information management practices and support compliance with corporate policies and relevant legislation.
  • Delivering training, guidance and awareness activities to build capability and improve understanding of information and records management responsibilities.
  • Conducting information audits and reviews to ensure information assets are appropriately managed, safeguarded, and subject to the correct controls.
  • Collaborating with Information Assurance, Digital and Technology colleagues to identify management risks and support appropriate mitigation activities.
  • Supporting the procurement, implementation and ongoing management of information systems and services, ensuring implementation management requirements are considered throughout.
We are looking for

an experienced information and records management professional with a strong understanding of information governance and lifecycle management within a large or complex organisation. You will have practical experience applying information management policies and processes, alongside a good understanding of relevant legislation, including the Freedom of Information Act and Data Protection legislation.

You will be confident providing advice and guidance to colleagues, supporting teams to meet information management requirements and promoting good practice across the organisation.

Experience with in government, the public sector or a regulated environment would be beneficial, particularly where information is managed in line with UK Government standards and guidance. Knowledge of Machinery of Government processes and records…
