Job Purpose

As Group Electrical Safety Manager, you will assist in shaping the future of Electrical Safety across National Grid, one of the world's largest energy companies. Acting as the Group team's senior Electrical Safety specialist, you will influence strategy, governance and performance across our UK and US operations, helping ensure the safety of our people, assets and the communities we serve

Working closely with leaders and Business Units, you will influence decision-making, strengthen organisational capability and help shape the future direction of Electrical Safety across the Group.

This is a strategic role with no direct operational responsibility for Electrical Safety delivery, enabling a focus on long-term risk reduction, organisational learning and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities

This high-impact role blends technical leadership, strategic oversight, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the safety and integrity of our people, assets and operations.

Group Safety Management System
  • Provide expert leadership on group electrical safety standards, policies and governance frameworks.
  • Partner with Business Units to ensure alignment between local safety plans and Group strategy.
  • Promote a culture of ownership and accountability for Electrical Safety across the organisation.
Assurance & Governance
  • Develop and lead the Group Electrical Safety assurance strategy and support independent assurance activities.
  • Provide expert input when requested to major projects, executive governance forums and organisational performance reviews.
  • Assess the effectiveness of controls and recommend improvements to reduce risk.
Incident Investigation & Data Insight
  • Provide expert oversight of significant Electrical Safety investigations and organisational learning.
  • Drive the development of meaningful performance metrics, reporting and trend analysis to inform decision-making.
Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and deliver National Grid's long-term Group Electrical Safety strategy.
  • Influence senior leaders to improve Electrical Safety performance and reduce risk.
  • Identify emerging risks, technologies and industry developments.
  • Represent National Grid externally with industry bodies and professional networks.
Systems Integration & Collaboration
  • Maintain Group Electrical Safety policies and standards in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support enterprise risk, resilience and crisis management activities.
  • Provide specialist advice to Group functions, including Procurement, to strengthen contractor and supplier safety performance.
Qualifications
  • Electrical engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience.
  • Significant experience working within high-voltage or high-hazard electrical environments.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution or equivalent professional standing.
  • Willingness to undertake UK and occasional US travel.
  • Previous SAP authorisation or equivalent technical authority experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), MIET or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, NESC or other international electrical safety frameworks.
  • Audit or assurance qualifications and experience

More Information

A competitive salary of £66,000 to £76,000, dependent on capability.
