Working at the heart of a busy operational environment, the service is responsible for delivering reliable waste and recycling collections to residents across Cardiff while maintaining high standards of health and safety, customer service and operational efficiency.
About the jobYou will manage the day-to-day delivery of waste collections services, ensuring that operations run safely, efficiently and in line with council and regulatory standards. You will work closely with managers, frontline supervisors and operational teams to coordinate resources, resolve issues and support consistent service delivery across a fast‑paced frontline environment.
- Manage and be accountable for daily operational activity to help ensure effective service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with managers, transport colleagues and frontline teams to coordinate resources and maintain operational resilience.
- Help identify and resolve operational issues in a timely and practical way.
- Monitor performance information and contribute to reports, analysis and decision-making.
- Promote compliance with health and safety requirements, council policies and service procedures.
- Contribute to a positive team culture through effective communication and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
We are looking for someone with experience in operations management, ideally within a waste collections, transport or similarly demanding frontline service environment. You will have strong organisational skills, good operational awareness and the ability to work effectively as part of a large team. You should be confident handling changing priorities, interpreting operational information and communicating clearly with colleagues at all levels.
- Experience in an operational management or coordination role.
- An understanding of transport or waste collection operations.
- Strong analytical and organisational skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- A proactive, adaptable and professional approach.
- The ability to work well in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment.
Working knowledge of waste and recycling operations is important, along with the ability to quickly adapt to the technologies used by the service. An understanding of and adherence to Council Policies and Procedures is required, as is maintaining the reputation of the Council through a professional and courteous approach.
A full, valid driving licence is essential for this post.
