Fawkes & Reece are currently working with a leading Mechanical & Electrical contractor who are seeking an experienced Mechanical Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a major project based in Cardiff.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with a well-established contractor on a significant project, offering an initial contract of approximately 18 months, with the potential for an extension.
The RoleAs the Mechanical Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of the mechanical package from project delivery through to final account. You will work closely with the project and commercial teams to ensure costs are effectively managed while maintaining contractual compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Managing all commercial aspects of the mechanical package.
- Preparing, reviewing and negotiating subcontractor packages.
- Producing accurate cost reports, forecasts and valuations.
- Managing variations, change control and compensation events.
- Preparing interim applications for payment and agreeing final accounts.
- Monitoring project costs against budgets and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
- Reviewing and administering subcontractor payments.
- Assisting with procurement of mechanical subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and industry standards.
- Liaising with project managers, engineers, clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Quantity Surveyor within the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) or Building Services sector.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical services installations and associated costs.
- Experience working on large-scale commercial, healthcare, residential, industrial or data centre projects is advantageous.
- Good understanding of standard forms of contract, including JCT and NEC.
- Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Building Services, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Membership of RICS or CICES is advantageous but not essential.
- CSCS Card (where required).
- Approximately 18-month contract with the potential for extension.
