Based in Roath Lock, Wales, you will be working on the long-running multi‑award winning Saturday night drama series, Casualty. Working in the Costume Department, you’ll gain an understanding of all aspects of how the production works with a specific focus on Costume.
YOURKEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Gain an understanding of the production processes relevant to costume.
- Gain experience in script analysis and continuity, production scheduling and an understanding of on‑set etiquette while supporting the costume team.
- Receive a broad range of tasks and experiences to equip you for a future career in Costume and Design.
You’ll be learning both on and off the job. This means that as well as learning on your placement at the BBC, you’ll also attend learning blocks (a week or two at a time) with our learning provider, working towards an industry‑recognised qualification, Level 3 Diploma in Digital and Creative Media. Learning blocks will be delivered in‑person.
YOUR SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITYWe’re interested in your passion for working at the BBC and your enthusiasm for delivering world‑class content and operational excellence to our audiences. We’re not focused on your qualifications; instead, we look for potential and offer you the opportunity to apply your transferable strengths and experience to work in different ways.
We are looking for:
- The ability to sew and understanding of basic costume tools.
- An enthusiastic individual who is willing to learn and work as part of a team.
- A passion for drama.
- Good observation skills / detail‑oriented.
- Enthusiastic to start a career in costume.
- Good IT and communication skills.

To be eligible for an apprenticeship at the BBC, you must:
- Be 18 years old or over by the time the apprenticeship begins in September 2026.
- Have lived in the UK continuously for the last 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship.
- Be legally eligible to work full‑time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship.
- Not currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme, whether with the BBC or another organisation.
- No prior learning required to apply.
For candidates under the age of 19 at 8th September 2026:
To complete the apprenticeship, you must have achieved Essential Skills Wales Level 2 in Communication and Application of Number within the first 12 months of the apprenticeship.
