The Collection Development Strategy identifies Black history as a priority collecting area. This post plays a key role in delivering the aims of the strategy by contributing to the development, research and interpretation of collections relating to Black history and heritage in Wales.
This is a 12-month fixed‑term position, providing cover while the current post-holder undertakes a secondment.
The main purpose of the role is to deliver the aims set out in the Collection Development Strategy through a range of participatory methodologies. These will include rapid response collecting, oral histories, and community led collaborative projects with a range of internal and external stakeholders across Wales to enhance the visibility and relevance of these collections in our public programmes and displays.
Over the next 12 months, work will focus on developing content that will inform a programme of rotating displays within the Wales is... and Life is... galleries at St Fagans National Museum of History. A new oral history studio will also launch at St Fagans providing opportunities to increase the number of oral history interviews that we collect with communities across Wales.
