PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £28,100 - £38,100 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the RoleThe BBC Audio Science Unit is a world-leading centre for celebrating and championing science and ideas.
The team make science programmes on Radio 4 and the World Service as well as global podcasts. We cover all aspects of science, tech, health, engineering, psychology, natural history, space science and more. Current programmes and podcasts include Inside Science, Inside Health, Health Check, All in the Mind, Crowd Science and Unexpected Elements. We reach over 270 million people across the world every week.
Our content will be produced from the BBC’s newest, greenest and most technologically advanced broadcast facility - Central Square, Cardiff.
Are you involved in making podcasts or audio content? Do you have journalistic skills to find the best stories and make them really matter? And do you have a background in science or health? If so, you may be just the person to join our team as an Assistant Producer who can work effectively to help deliver engaging, creative built content, week after week.
Yourkey responsibilities and impact
- Experience in a communication environment, with an expertise in the science world.
- Ability to contribute with fast, thorough research.
- Ideas that will engage audiences on air, on websites and other developing platforms.
- Experience of working in an environment with tight deadlines and changing priorities.
- A real enthusiasm for programme making and an informed interest in speech radio.
- A good team player and have the attitude and aptitude to develop in this multi-skilled role.
Essential criteria:
- A background in health or science.
- Experience in audio content production at a national level and a knowledge of BBC Sounds, Radio 4 and World Service programmes.
- Journalistic experience, especially in science or health stories.
- The ability to find new and creative ways of making audio.
- Demonstrates flexibility and able to thrive in a busy team environment.
