Recycling and Neighbourhood Services (RNS) manages the full lifecycle of Cardiff’s municipal waste, overseeing key operational sites including the city’s Household Waste Recycling Centres across Cardiff.
These sites play a central role in delivering Cardiff’s recycling and reuse targets, supporting the Council’s wider “Beyond Recycling” ambitions and ensuring waste is treated and disposed of in line with statutory and environmental requirements.
About the jobReporting to the Weighbridge Data Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the weighbridge, ensuring vehicles are processed accurately, safely, and in line with legislation.
In addition to this you will support data accuracy, compliance, and efficient site operations, support the team and ensure a high level of customer service is upheld across both sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the weighbridge system to record all vehicle movements
- Check and record waste transfer and consignment notes
- Ensure compliance with site procedures and legal requirements by weighbridge Clerks and site users
- Maintain accurate records and filing systems
- Liaise with site staff and drivers
- Handle customer and contractor enquiries
- Process payments where required
- Report faults or system issues
- Maintain high standards of customer service
You will need to have strong attention to detail and accuracy when dealing with Weighbridge operations. You will need to be comfortable using IT systems like Outlook and Excel and will need to learn how to use the weighbridge software to a high level that you are able to help with software issues the team may experience while staying within Audit guidelines.
You will need strong communication skills, and be able to work under pressure, individually and as part of a team.
You will work in line with Council policies including health & safety and safeguarding. Flexibility may be required to meet service needs.
You will be able to quickly adapt to technologies used by the service. You will need to understand and operate in line with Council Policies and Procedures. You must maintain the reputation of the Council by adopting a professional and courteous approach.
