Consultant T&O Surgeon in Major Trauma & Pelvic Reconstruction

The closing date is 31 August 2026.

We have an exciting opportunity for a full‑time consultant Trauma & Orthopedic Surgeon with an interest in Major Trauma and Pelvic Reconstruction. This post consists of 12 sessions (inclusive of 2 temporary additional sessions) comprising 9 DCC sessions and 3 SPA sessions per week, with an attached trauma team. You will provide care for patients admitted under the Major Trauma Centre and be on-call for Major Trauma and second on call for General Trauma, including MTC ward rounds and operating as required.

  • Provide specialist service in the designated hospitals, responsible for prevention, diagnosis, treatment of illness and promotion of health.
  • Continuing responsibility for patient care, liaison with consultants, and ensuring proper department functioning in line with operational policy.
  • Professional supervision and management of resident medical staff, including training and career advice.
  • Participate in continuing medical education, teaching, examination and accreditation duties.
  • Engage in postgraduate and continuing medical education, audit activities locally and nationally.
  • Teach and train at all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate education, and conduct or initiate research projects.
Job responsibilities

You will be responsible for delivering the above duties and will operate within the MTC and usual hospital workflow.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise, on the Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT within six months of interview date.
  • ATLS provider status.
  • Relevant higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD).
Experience
  • Broad experience in orthopaedic surgery with above‑average competence in specialist adult trauma surgery.
  • Completion of a trauma fellowship including pelvic reconstruction in a recognised trauma centre or university teaching hospital.
  • Experience and training in surgical management of common non‑specialised orthopaedic conditions in children.
Skills
  • Effective team and multidisciplinary working.
Clinical Governance
  • Participation in clinical audit and understanding of audit in improving practice.
  • Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance.
  • Proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation (or equivalent).
Research
  • Active research interests and ability to critically appraise research.
Teaching
  • Teaching of medical/dental students and resident doctors.
Management
  • Commitment to participating and understanding management process.
  • Effective leadership and management skills.
