Job summary

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Haematologist with a specialist interest in Myeloma at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. This post is available immediately for an initial six-month period, subject to review and possible extension.

The Haematology Directorate includes a Level 4 Cancer Centre with an established myeloma service delivering all NICE-approved therapies and a strong portfolio of early and late-phase clinical trials. Local and regional myeloma MDTs support patients across South Wales, providing specialist advice, second opinions and access to trials. The wider department offers comprehensive malignant and general haematology services, including bone marrow transplantation, on-site CAR-T therapy and a tertiary haemostasis service.

The successful candidate will join an experienced multidisciplinary myeloma team within a Myeloma UK CSEP-accredited unit. Responsibilities include outpatient, day-unit and inpatient myeloma care, contributing to the malignant haematology service and participating in the consultant on-call rota.

The post is offered on a full-time basis, although flexible working arrangements will be considered. Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within three months of receiving a CCT at interview.

The post benefits from the Welsh Consultant Contract, with a basic salary of £125,509 per annum. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure check and pre-employment checks.

The successful candidate will join an established and forward-looking multidisciplinary myeloma team and will contribute to all aspects of the plasma cell disorders service. Clinical commitments will include dedicated clinics for:

• New patient assessment
• Follow-up care
• Pre-treatment and chemotherapy review
• Clinical trial activity within the Clinical Research Facility
• Clinics are distributed throughout the week, providing a varied and rewarding balance of specialist clinical care, research activity, service development and regional leadership.
