About the role-

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ASD Specialist Teacher to join our award‑winning SEN school, supporting pupils aged 3-19 with ASD and associated communication, sensory, or social‑emotional needs.

The successful candidate will deliver structured, engaging learning tailored to learners, creating a calm, predictable, and nurturing environment that supports regulation and positive engagement. You will implement evidence‑based approaches such as visual supports and sensory‑informed strategies.

We are seeking a teacher experienced in supporting pupils with ASD, including those who may present with anxiety, sensory differences, or behaviour linked to communication needs. A strong understanding of neurodiversity, person‑centred practice, and relationship‑based teaching is essential.

This is a highly rewarding role for a teacher who is passionate about promoting independence, communication, and wellbeing, helping every pupil achieve their full potential academically and socially.

Requirements-
  • Individuals with experience teaching in SEN schools.
  • Individuals with a coherent and in-depth understanding of ALN and how to cater to them via independent learning plans.
  • Educators who create fun and exciting environments where learning and self‑exploration can take place.
  • Individuals who remain calm under pressure and who are highly empathetic during challenging situations.
  • Teachers who can support their fellow members of staff and lead by example in their behaviour and attitude throughout the school.
  • Hold a Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) or equivalent
    .
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
  • Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
About the school-

The school is based in Penarth, with additional campuses across Barry and Cardiff, and supports around 500 pupils aged 3-19 with a wide range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including Autism, PMLD, and physical disabilities.

Although the environment is fast paced, staff benefit from a highly supportive team and a dedicated Headteacher. The school is award‑winning and well known for its innovative use of technology to improve learning, communication, and independence.

Alongside a broad and engaging curriculum, pupils access regular outdoor and community‑based learning to build confidence and prepare for life beyond school.
