We are currently recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEN school in the Erdington area, an Ofsted‑rated Outstanding all‑age early years up to further education Specialist Provision. The school provides high‑quality education for nearly 300 pupils with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and complex needs, such as ASD, PMLD, hearing and visual impairments and SLD within a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment.
We are looking for experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join a dynamic SEN setting. In this role, you will deliver high‑quality education across primary and secondary classes, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASD, complex learning difficulties, SLD and PMLD.
You will work within school policies and teaching standards, helping pupils who may present with challenging behaviours or be working below age‑related expectations. Your role will involve promoting emotional regulation, encouraging positive engagement, and establishing consistent, structured learning routines to support each pupil’s development. TheSEN Teaching Assistant Role:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Physical Disabilities (PD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
- Implement strategies to support behaviour, emotional regulation and individual learning outcomes
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to meet EHCP goals
- Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
- Support pupils with personal care or physical needs, where required
- Promote independence, confidence and resilience in learners
- SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND TA, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant, 1:1 TA, Behaviour Mentor
- Experience working in a special school, PRU, alternative provision or inclusive mainstream school
- Strong understanding of SEND, particularly supporting pupils with ASD, MLD, PMLD, SLD, SpLD
- Empathetic, adaptable and resilient approach
- Excellent behaviour management strategies
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Relevant training such as Team Teach, Makaton or PECS is desirable but not essential
