Are you passionate about making a real difference for pupils who need strong, consistent behaviour support? Aspire People are recruiting for a Behaviour Specialist HLTA to work in Cardiff from September. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives on building relationships, supporting emotional regulation, and helping learners re‑engage and succeed in school.

The Role

As a Behaviour Specialist HLTA, you'll be a vital part of the school's support network – working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and SEN/ALN leads to promote positive behaviour and create a calm, structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Targeted behaviour support:
Deliver 1:1 and small‑group interventions to support emotional regulation, engagement, and readiness to learn.
  • Positive behaviour & de‑escalation:
Apply consistent strategies to reduce disruption and support pupils back into the classroom.
  • HLTA classroom responsibilities:
Lead learning activities, deliver planned sessions, and provide high‑quality cover where required.
  • Pastoral support:
Assist pupils with routines, transitions, and reintegration following incidents or time out of class.
  • Collaborative working:
Support behaviour plans alongside teachers, pastoral teams and ALN/SEN staff.
  • Safeguarding:
Record and report concerns in line with school safeguarding procedures.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone calm, resilient and proactive, with a genuine commitment to supporting young people. You should have:

  • Experience working with children or young people in an education or support setting.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Confidence leading learning and interventions at HLTA level.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team‑focused approach.
Desirable (but not essential)
  • Experience with SEMH, EBD, mental health needs, challenging behaviour, anxiety and/or ALN.
