Position: SCHOOLS LIAISON OFFICER (SPECIALIST SETTINGS) *Sabbatical Cover

The Cardiff Commitment is looking for a Schools Liaison Officer whose role will be to support Youth Support Service and Educated Other Than At School Settings to maximise the benefits of partnership for the benefit of the children and young people they work with.

The role will focus on brokering opportunities for pupils in these settings with Cardiff Commitment partners to develop careers and work‑related experiences that support the staff to draw upon the specialist knowledge, skills and resources that partners can provide to support the educational, social, and health and well‑being needs of children and young people.

The role will be based at home mainly with some time in County Hall and Ysgol Groes Wen expected and with visits to employers and partners across the city expected.

  • An understanding of the types of barriers and challenges some children and young people have when thinking about progressing into employment, education, or training post 16?

The Cardiff Commitment are looking for someone with a real passion for making a difference to the lives of children and young people in Cardiff.

Someone who can innovate and make use of the social, cultural and economic capital we have access to through the Cardiff Commitment network for the benefit of children and young people.

We want you to work side by side with Specialist Settings including Children's Services, Specialist Resource Bases and Educated Other Than At School settings to broker meaningful careers and work‑related experiences for children and young people.

We are looking to recruit a person that has experience of or is willing to learn quickly how to engage with teachers, youth support workers and pupils and help them to develop knowledge, skills and experiences with partners on behalf of their pupils as per the ambitions of the Curriculum For Wales.

But most importantly we want to recruit someone who is able to develop a network of employers that can support settings to deliver excellent opportunities for children and young people that encourage ambition, develop skills and support progression into education, employment and training.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for someone with experience of developing opportunities and who is able to demonstrate an understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by our most vulnerable and at‑risk children and young people.

We want someone who can work with stakeholders to innovate, plan, broker, develop, implement and evaluate careers and work‑related experiences for children and young people.

You will understand the importance of strong networks, building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders such as, schools, colleges, Cardiff Council staff, children, young people and employers.

You will cultivate strong relationships with organisations across the city who work with children and young people and keep updated and abreast of the challenges and barriers that young people face to progression.

We are looking for someone who can inform, gather and share what excellent careers and work‑related experiences look like for children and young people.

You will work with stakeholders and to develop creative marketing and communications to ensure opportunities reach children and young people who need it most and promote the work of the Cardiff Commitment.

You will work alongside Specialist Settings (including Specialist Resource Bases, Children's Services, Educated Other Than At School) to ensure a joined‑up approach to the work of the Cardiff Commitment.

Additional information

This role is temporary until March 2027.
