This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. Independent Training Services (ITS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate ALS Student Support Worker to join our Employability Skills and Apprenticeships provision across South and West Yorkshire. This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners with additional needs, helping them to fully access their programmes and achieve their potential in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Working as part of a committed and experienced team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality support to learners across a range of vocational areas. You will collaborate closely with curriculum staff and the ALS team to ensure learners receive consistent, tailored support that promotes independence, confidence and success.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on learners’ journeys, supporting them to overcome barriers and progress into further learning, employment or training.

In this role, you will provide personalised support to learners on Employability Skills and Apprenticeship programmes, working with individuals and small groups to ensure they can fully engage with their learning. You will manage a caseload of learners, delivering support in line with their individual learning plans and adapting your approach to meet a range of needs, including communication, cognition, literacy, numeracy and behavioural development.

You will contribute to monitoring learner progress by setting and reviewing SMART targets, conducting professional discussions and implementing targeted interventions to remove barriers to learning. This will involve producing detailed observation records, maintaining high-quality session logs and completing accurate, audit-compliant reports on learner progress, attendance and engagement. You will also support learners during assessments and exams where required, including acting as a scribe, reader, invigilator or prompt, while reinforcing safe working practices across all learning environments.

Working closely with curriculum teams, you will embed within a variety of vocational areas to develop a strong understanding of programme requirements and ensure support is aligned effectively. You will liaise regularly with tutors to share updates on learner progress and identify any concerns, contributing to reviews such as EHCP processes where appropriate. In addition, you will adapt learning resources, support learners with physical or sensory needs, and provide personal care where necessary, always promoting dignity, independence and inclusion.

You will act as a positive role model and advocate for learners, supporting their confidence and engagement, while also contributing to wider team activities, including meetings, training, open days, interviews and IAG sessions.

We are looking for a committed and empathetic individual who is passionate about supporting learners with additional needs. You will have experience working with vulnerable children, young people or adults, including those with learning difficulties or disabilities, and will be confident in providing both academic and pastoral support. You will bring a calm, patient and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond to a wide range of learner needs while promoting independence and positive outcomes.

You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build effective working relationships with learners, colleagues and stakeholders.
