Overview
The T.E.A.M.@Severn works with learners unable to access school due to health and exceptional circumstances. The team works across the City in community settings and council buildings, partnering with families, schools, EOTAS providers, other professionals, the Health Service and other statutory and voluntary agencies in Cardiff. The purpose of the service is to provide tailored, engaging education for our children and young people in the short term, as they transition into full‑time education, training or employment.
Teachers and Skills and Support officers work in collaboration to provide the best possible outcomes.
The teacher will join an innovative team that plans and delivers bespoke lessons. The teacher’s role is to provide tailored and engaging lessons in line with the EOTAS curriculum, challenging and motivating learners and enabling them to progress.
Key responsibilitiesThe successful candidate will work one‑to‑one and with groups of children, young people and their families who may be experiencing challenge and trauma, adopting a non‑judgemental, empathetic approach. The candidate will facilitate rapid progress after periods of disrupted learning and re‑engage learners aged 5 to 19 years.
Qualifications and experienceOutstanding educator, motivating all students to achieve full potential through exceptional learning experiences; maintenance of high standards for both self and students; strong understanding of the curriculum; knowledge of Additional Learning Needs and the effects of trauma on learners.
The ability to teach art, science, design and technology or other similar subjects at GCSE level would be advantageous.
A comprehensive understanding of safeguarding is essential. Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and the credibility required by the council is expected.
Ability to travel across Cardiff throughout the day is essential; ability to drive a minibus is desirable.
Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) is required. Appointment to the post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a Child Workforce Barred List check.
